Nourishing face mask for dry skin

Sunday is a great day for mooching and sorting out some beauty treatments; here Pawan Ahsan gives you a nourishing face mask for dry skin that is made with just three ingredients.

We all need a boost of moisture to the skin occasionally to help fight the look of a dull and dry complexion. I love natural, traditional and easy-to-find ingredients that give amazing results and benefits.
1/2 ripe banana
1 teaspoon honey
2 tablespoon of besan (gram flour)
Mash the banana with a fork in a bowl until mostly smooth. Add the honey and besan and stir until it forms a paste. Apply to a clean and dry face and neck for 20 minutes and then wash off with plenty of warm water.
The benefits
Bananas are fantastic at not only delivering moisture and hydration (thanks to the high potassium content) but also vitamin A, C and E protect the skin cells from free radicals, helping towards anti-ageing, fading age stops and marks as well as promoting healthy collagen production, resulting in bright, supple and smooth skin. And it doesn’t stop there – zinc and lectin eliminate the germs and bacteria that cause acne and pimples too!
Honey has been used for thousands of years, both as a medicine and a natural beauty ingredient. Its antibacterial properties help toward treating and preventing acne. It’s bursting with antioxidants, which are great for slowing down the ageing process and it’s moisturising and soothing, so it makes skin glow. Honey is also clarifying, it can open pores to unclog them and leave your skin feeling fresh.
Besan (gram flour) is a nostalgic favourite home remedy of mine. It’s widely used in the Indian subcontinent, not only as a food staple but also for beauty. Traditionally would-be brides would apply a paste called ubtan made of besan and other natural ingredients, just before the big day, to reveal a flawless glowing complexion. It was my mother’s go-to remedy during my acne-prone teenage years and miraculously, it did work. The zinc in gram flour helps acne prone skin and it can exfoliate dead skin cells to leave a brighter, more even skin tone. My kitchen cupboard is never without it!
